Answer regarding the study of Japanese language and the Yamate Japanese Language School

When is the enrollment period?

There are two enrollment periods in a year. In April and in October.

  • If you want to apply for the course that starts in April, all the documents should be filed by the end of October of the previous year.
  • Similarly, for the course that starts in October, all the documents should be filed by the end of April.

Is there any age restriction?

There is no age restriction, but the school accepts only those students who have graduated in the former school within five years.

How long obtaining the student visa takes?

For students expected to come in Japan in April, the visa will be issued about the end of February. For students expected to come in October, it will be issued at the end of August.

Is there  any scholarship?

The school does not have a scholarship. But in Japan there are many different types of scholarship systems. For example, a scholarship is issued when you have good academic records at the Examination for Japanese University (EJU).

How many hours of lesson are there per day?

Classes are held from Monday through Friday 3 hours each day.
Classes are divided into morning class and afternoon class, and the time schedule is as follows.

  • Morning class: 9:00 – 12:15 (with 15 minute breaks in between)
  • Afternoon class: 13:00 – 16:15 (with 15 minute breaks in between)

Where students come from?

The majority of students come from China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Nepal, Thailand, Mongolia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Indonesia, Korea and other countries.

How do you make class divisions?

The first learning class will be determined based on a class placement test at the time of enrollment. There are also class placement tests held several times a year.

When should I start the enrollment procedure?

Can I do part time job?

Foreign students can also work part- time jobs under certain restrictions if the Immigration Bureau permits activities other than that permitted.

  • The amount of work permitted per week is 28 hours.
  • However, students can work for 40 hours per week during long school holidays such as summer vacation.

How much one month life expenses would cost about?

There are many expenses like rent, electricity, water, meals, telephone charges and so on, of course life expenses depend on each person, but the majority of people live with 70,000 ~ 80,000 yen per month.

Do you have a dormitory?

School-designated dorms are located near the school. Students living in the school-designated dorms for six months after enrollment.

Is it necessarily required to live in a dorm?

As a general rule students enrolling in this school will live in the school-designated dorm (for a period of 6 months–in the case of October students, until March 31 of the year after the date of enrollment).

If you wish to live with family members who lives near the school, we ask cohabitants come to the school for an interview. In such cases, the family members will be asked to submit documentation proving their familial relationship with you. Furthermore, depending on the interview with the cohabitants, in some cases this school may not approve you live with cohabitants.
